Activities of the society

The original aims of the society were to promote plant physiology and contacts between plant physiologists, arrange meetings, and publish a journal where people could publish their research results. This is still true today except that now we rather talk about plant scientists and experimental plant biology.

As main activities, the society arranges the SPPS congresses and publishes the journal Physiologia Plantarum. The society also supports other congresses and initiatives within the field of plant science, and provides travel grants for junior members to participate in conferences, workshops, field trips, lab exchanges, and other activites within the Nordic countries. The SPPS Awards recognize exceptional contributions in the field of plant science at different levels. Popularisation of science and promoting teaching of plant science are more recent activities that evolved along the years. As a part of this development the SPPS Education committee was established in 2011.
